We are all looking forward to Easter Sunday. We celebrate the resurrection with early morning church services; Easter egg hunts; new spring clothes, and a feast for our meals. But what were Christ’s followers doing on the Saturday following the crucifixion? I think we all know that they were not going shopping for new clothes. They were scared and in hiding. This was not good, and they were thinking defeat, not victory. But it was already game over—victory is at hand!
We know that now. We believe that. So, why do we worry about anything? If we already believe that the prophesy of Christ’s death and resurrection has come true, then how can we doubt the rest of the Holy Scripture? And if we believe the Holy Scripture, we know that our eternal life is assured. And if our eternal life is assured, well then, victory is already at hand. It is time to go out and buy some new spring clothes.
When this happens, then at last this Scripture will come true: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” O death, where then your victory? Where then your sting? For sin—the sting that causes death—will all be gone; and the law, which reveals our sins, will no longer be our judge. How we thank God for all of this! It is he who makes us victorious through Jesus Christ our Lord! So my dear brothers, since future victory is sure, be strong and steady, always abounding in the Lord’s work, for your know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever wasted as it would be if there were no resurrection.

We do have worries about today. We worry about the job, we worry about paying the mortgage, we worry about the kids, we worry about our health, we worry about our relationships. Jesus understands that. He is trying so hard to tell us, “Relax, I’ve got you covered. Victory is Ours already!”
Lord, thank You for providing us cover. Thank You for Your death and the resurrection; thank You for the blood that washed away the crimson stain of our sins. Because we know that victory is at hand, we pray that we may have the faith to surrender our burdens—all of our burdens—over to You. We pray for the Peace You have promised us. Amen.
