One day at church, Diana and I heard this message: as believers, we trust that God has our souls for all eternity. We looked at each other and agreed, “Yep, our souls are safe, so that if we were to die today, we are assured that we would be with our Heavenly Father.” Okay, got that; let’s give each other a high five!
Then the next part: if we believe that God has our souls (which is the most important of all promises), why then do we not trust Him with today? Gulp! He tells us not to worry. He knows what we need, so trust Him with today.
Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? So do not worry, saying, “What shall we eat” or What shall we drink? or What shall we wear?” For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first His kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Matthew 6:25–27,31–34
So today, let’s first give thanks that our Lord has our eternal souls all wrapped up and sealed; then, let’s pray and thank Him for already knowing our needs (the job, the relationships, the mortgage, the finances, you fill in the blank) and finally thank Him for the peace He gives us by taking these worries on and removing that burden from us. Amen.
