I was once given advice to not only look at today, but to look out one year; five years, and ten years and decide what I want to be doing then. That is very good advice. I recommend we all consider that.
But let’s add something to that future view. Change the question from, “What do I want to be doing in one, five, and ten years?” to, “What does the Lord want me to be doing in one, five, and ten years?”
Today, you may be close to retirement and need to find something to get you through a couple more years, or you might be a single mother of four children who not only has to pay the bills but also has to save for their education. Either way, the Lord does have a plan for us that He wants us to consider. He has placed a dream in our hearts. Simply ask Him to reveal the next step. The more you envision yourself leading the boardroom, launching your own business, serving a ministry, writing your first book, or helping others with your special gift, the sooner it becomes a reality. Before our future vision becomes clear, God will give us glimpses of it. Take your God-given vision and run with it.
But these things I plan won’t happen right away. Slowly, steadily, surely, the time approaches when the vision will be fulfilled. If it seems slow, do not despair, for these things will surely come to pass. Just be patient! They will not be overdue a single day!
Habakkuk 2:3
Today, let’s pray: Lord, I thank You for all You’ve given us— even those things that seem unfair and unjust, even the scars that have been inflicted by those intending evil against us. Empower us to do our best, to remain Christlike and positive, because we know that where we are right now is not where You are taking us. Grant us glimpses of Your vision for our future so that our understanding may grow in accordance with Your timing. Give us patience along the way and faith to trust that You are working for our good every moment of the day. Amen.
Have a great day.
