We are very thankful to be living in Florida, especially as we saw the snowstorm that hit the east coast last week. Another advantage we have here is we get to see some great sunsets into the Gulf of Mexico. We also get some great sunrises.
One morning, Diana and I were outside reading the Bible and our daily devotional and spending time in prayer. It was right as the sun was trying to come up, and the sky turned a pinkish red. Then the sun began to send its rays through the clouds in glorious streams of light. Hard to describe, but it made us stop and give praise to the Lord—we were awestruck.
On occasion, we will go to the beach in the evenings—bring chairs, a snack, a drink and watch the beautiful sunsets. A realist might say, while today’s sunset is great, it happened yesterday and it will happen again tomorrow. That is true!
Isn’t that also true about our relationship with God? There are times when we are so close to our Heavenly Father that we can feel His breath on us. We feel His hands all around us, knowing He has us covered. Then there are times when we don’t notice Him at all. Things may be going so well in our lives and we don’t even notice His presence because we are not looking for Him; or things are so bad we need Him now, but we just don’t feel His presence—we feel abandoned.
Well, I think we go back to this: “Today was great that you felt so close to the Lord, but He was there yesterday and He will certainly be there tomorrow.”
For I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from his love. Death can’t, and life can’t. The angels won’t, and all the powers of hell itself cannot keep God’s love away. Our fears for today, our worries about tomorrow, or where we are – high above the sky, or in the deepest ocean—nothing will ever be able to separate us from the love of God demonstrated by our Lord Jesus Christ when he died for us.
Romans 8:38–39
So today, we give thanks to the Lord our God who is always there for us, no matter our location, no matter our situation, no matter our worries, no matter our troubles, no matter our feelings, no matter our sins—He is always right there giving us His Love. You are an awesome God! We pray that we take the time to recognize Your presence in our lives and that we are compassionate enough to help others to recognize You in their lives as well.
Experience a great sunset today—even if you don’t see it.
