Often, we forget the Power of the Lord that is already in place to protect us. A great example of this is in 2 Kings 6:14–17.
Let me set it up: the prophet Elisha was being hunted by the entire Syrian army because Elisha was telling the King of Israel the plans of the Syrian army. Thus, they were being defeated. So, the King of Syria wanted Elisha dead. While Elisha had strong faith in the Lord, his servant was not as strong in faith. One morning, the servant woke up and discovered that he and Elisha were surrounded by the entire Syrian army—horses and chariots everywhere. This was not going to be good. Here is what the Word says:
So one night the king of Syria sent a great army with many chariots and horses to surround the city. When the prophet’s servant got up early the next morning and went outside, there were troops, horses and chariots everywhere. “Alas, my master, what shall we do now?” he cried to Elisha. ” Don’t be afraid!” Elisha told him. “For our army is bigger than theirs!” Then Elisha prayed, “Lord, open his eyes and let him see!” And the Lord opened the young man’s eyes so that he could see horses of fire and chariots of fire everywhere upon the mountain!
2 Kings 6:14–17
Wow! Most of the time in trouble and despair, we only see the problems, but Elisha was able to look further and see the Lord’s massive army—on fire, ready to protect Elisha and his servant. Can you imagine the lift in spirit of the servant, who moments before was trembling with fear? The Lord allowed him to see how he was protected against the armies of his enemy.
Today, let’s pray that we all may see the protection that surrounds us from the Lord. He is on our right, our left, he is in front and behind us, he is above and below us—yes, we are totally protected by His Almighty Presence.
