In the military, the motto says there will be “no soldier left behind!” That is a commitment, a solemn oath of our nation to its soldiers that in a battle, we will not leave anyone behind.
We are in a battle, too. As Christians, we need to provide an even higher level of commitment, a higher level of solemn oath to our brothers and sisters in Christ. We commit and declare that we will make ourselves available to each other in times of need, in times of peril, in times of despair!
Do your friends know that? Have you reached out to those who are struggling and said, “I cannot leave you behind; I will not leave you behind; I will stand with you at your side!” It is the season for us to reach out to each other, to show tenderness and care. It will be repaid many times over.
Dear brothers, warn those who are lazy; comfort those who are frightened; take tender car of those who are weak; and be patient with everyone. See that no one pays back evil for evil, but always try to do good to each other and to everyone else.
1 Thessalonians 1:14–16
Carry us through today, Lord, with gentle wings from above.
Carry us through today, Lord, let us feel your love.
We shall not worry about tomorrow. Yesterday is gone.
Just carry us through today, Lord. That’s where we belong.
Through all our trials and troubles, we know that you are there.
Sometimes, it’s hard to see you, through each tear and care.
Carry us through today, Lord, don’t let us slip away.
Tomorrow may be taken from us, so carry us through today.
So today, Lord, we pray that we are courageous enough to stand with our brothers and sisters in the battle of the day, that we learn to lean into each other and protect each other. We pray for You to provide us the strength and energy we need to defend each other and that You carry us through today.
Have a supporting day.
