The Lord has a plan for us—it is for good and not for evil (Jeremiah 29:11). I truly believe that. I think all those receiving this message believe that, right?

God has a sense of humor as well. Sometimes He calls us to do things that are way outside of our comfort zones. I think He likes to see our reactions. Let’s consider Moses: God shows up one day in a burning bush! What is that all about? A cloud could have worked just as well. Then, God tells Moses He wants him to go to Egypt and deliver His people from years of captivity. Every step of the way, Moses resists: “No one will listen to me!” “How will they know I really talked to God?” “They won’t believe me!”

Can you imagine God’s expression? The eyes are beginning to roll! God already knows the outcome—He is just trying to get Moses to move along for his own good, but he keeps resisting. Then finally, Moses tells the Almighty, “I’m not a good speaker. Have someone else do this!” Uh-oh, he may have pushed God a little too far. That’s like me telling Diana that I’m not very good at removing the spots off the glass, so she should get someone else to clean the windows! Doesn’t go to well!

But Moses pleaded, “O Lord, I’m just not a good speaker. I never have been, and I’m not now, even after you have spoken to me, for I have a speech impediment.”
Exodus 14:10

But Moses said, “Lord, please! Send someone else.” Then the Lord became angry. “All right,” he said, “your brother Aaron is a good speaker.”
Exodus 14:13-14

If the Lord is calling you into an action that you don’t feel qualified for or is out of your comfort zone, it’s okay to push back. In fact, I would encourage you to push back—keep going to His Word. But when the guidance you get, time and time again, is to move in a particular direction, I would suggest you begin to move along. You will know it when it comes. For some of us, it is now! The Lord will provide us an Aaron if we need it. Remember, He already knows the end of the story; He just wants to make sure we are in the right place when it is our turn to shine.

So today, we thank You, Lord, for giving us great examples in Your Word of ordinary people called to do great things for Your Glory. We pray that we turn to You for guidance and direction so that our lives are in step with Your Will for us. And Lord, when You call upon us to move and we don’t feel ready, we pray that You gently push us along—for Your Glory.

Have an uh-oh-less day.

—Tim
