Faith! God brings us into circumstances in order to educate us. In order to build our faith, we have to try it out.
Like riding a bike: the first time you ride a bike, it is very difficult—even with training wheels. You scrape your knees along the way, but because you see other kids zipping around the neighborhood and you want that too, you keep getting back on. After you have done it a few times, you get better. You have stabilized yourself, you’ve become confident—enough that you ride the bike down to the end of the block and back. You have it conquered!
Do you remember that feeling? The same is true in faith. We can’t see it or touch it, but we know when someone else has it. We want what they’ve got! We see others zipping through life with the same struggles and challenges that we have—sometimes even more so—but they face life with a confidence that we want. They have faith. They know that the trials of today are already handled. If you ask them, they won’t know how the trials will be resolved, but they just know they will! Common sense is not faith; faith is not common sense. When you reach a certain point, common sense says no. That’s when you discover that God is able to exceed all that you ask or think.
Now glory be to God who by his mighty power at work within us is able to do far more than we would ever dare to ask or even dream of—infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, or hopes.
Ephesians 3:20
Look at that scripture again: God, by working within us, can do far more than we ever dare to ask Him for, or to dream of, or hope for. Think about that.
So today we pray, God, allow us to not be limited by the common sense of the world, but to be willing to take our training wheels off of our faith and zip around this world. We pray that when we scrape our knees that we don’t give up hope, but that You pick us back up again, brush us off, and put us back on the bike—allow us to be conquerors.
Have a great, zippy day.
