“Ask, and you will be given what you ask for. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened. For everyone who asks, receives. Anyone who seeks, finds. If only you will knock, the door will open. If a child asks his father for a loaf of bread, will he be given a stone instead? If he asks for fish, will he be given a poisonous snake? Of course not! And if you hardhearted, sinful men know how to give good gifts to your children, won’t your Father in heaven even more certainly give good gifts to those who ask Him for them?”

What wonderful scripture for us to focus on today. Our heavenly Father is ready to give us what we ask for! I highlighted the section, “If only you will knock.” Many times, my children (now my grandchildren) need to ask several times before I pay attention to their request. It’s not that I don’t care, maybe I’m just preoccupied with something else (like the Rays game). So, they have to “knock” several times. They will eventually get my attention.
So, maybe we should “knock many times, loudly” for the Lord. While the Lord is very focused on us (He may not be watching the Rays, although we have seen a few miracles there), I think He likes to see our persistence, our commitment to trusting in Him even when we sometimes think He is not paying attention because we don’t get an answer right away. We can be patient waiting on the Lord, but we don’t have to do it silently. It’s ok to keep asking continually, to keep seeking constantly, and to keep knocking loudly—He is our heavenly Father, and He will respond to us and give us the loaf of bread we seek and the fish we ask for. He will give us all the gifts that we need.
So today, let’s ask again, seek again, and knock again—a little bit louder. Lord, you know our needs today. Allow us the gift of persistence, allow us to come to You again and again with our requests. Lord, so many see the needs that we have, and Your delivery of us from our situation will give You great glory—we will sing Your Glory forevermore.
