Each Star Trek episode started out with the date this statement: “Boldly going where no man has gone before!” So, are you feeling bold today? I am! Today, I’m feeling really confident. I know my purpose. I’m driven. I’m capable of anything—bring it on! Nothing seems impossible. This is my time of plenty.
But what about last week? I was timid; I was unsure as to the direction to go; I was in need! If I were the starship Enterprise, I would be back at home base not going anywhere, afraid of my own shadow.
I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of contentment in every situation, whether it be a full stomach or hunger, plenty or want; for I can do everything God asks me to with the help of Christ who gives me the strength and power.
Philippians 4:12–13
We are told that Christ gives us strength and power in the times of plenty and the times of need. I always thought the scripture above applied to having enough food, clothes, and shelter. But today, I have a different view of that scripture. The times of plenty and times of need apply to my outlook in life. When we are having those tough days, we need to learn that we are human, that tough days will come. We need to learn to work through them. How do we do that? We pray; we get into the scripture; we ask for Christ’s presence and for His help to move us quickly through the time of need.
But what about the good days? The bold days? The days of plenty? That is when we need to harvest! We need to step out of our comfort zone and do things, like telling someone about Christ, like serving at a soup kitchen—going boldly where we have never gone before. If you’re not sure where to go, ask the Lord. He will let you know.
So today, Lord, we pray that if we are in a time of need, You will give us the strength and power to move quickly through this dry season. Lord, we pray that if we are in a time of plenty, You will give us strength and power to go boldly where You Lead us—anywhere You lead us—to work the harvest!
Have a Bold Day.
