Then he picked up five smooth stones from a stream and put them in his shepherd’s bag and, armed only with his shepherd’s stick and sling, started across to Goliath…
1 Samuel 17:40
Well, you already know the rest of the story. The problem in front of David was impossible. It could not be solved by the entire army of Israel, and it certainly could not be solved by a shepherd. But when we realize that the problem, the battle, the trouble is not ours alone, but the Lord’s, that is when the odds move into our favor.
David said to Goliath in 1 Samuel 17:25, “You come to me with a sword and a spear, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of the armies of heaven and of Israel—the very God whom you have defied.” When David said that, he allowed the battle to be the Lord’s battle and not his. When we trust in the Lord, we have no fear. Victory is assured.
So today, whatever the battle, the worry, the problem, the Goliath—call on the name of the Lord, let Him fight the battle, let Him defend you and lead you in victory. It is already won!
